Elephants have always had a special place in the hearts of circus fans.  This painting is in honor of a young elephant that I was privileged to work with His name is Lou.  He is a mild-mannered elephant and loved children.  His favorite pastime was giving children rides.  Never was there a better elephant than Lou.  The purpose of the elephant act was to show the audience a kind of exotic animal that they would otherwise never encounter.  With the changing of social standard about the treatment of the animals, they are no longer a part of the circus spectacle.
